The conductivity of alloy 6061 is 40% that of copper. It is often used in the electrical field in the form of electrical accessories and connectors.
6061 Alloy aluminum is highly weldable, for example using Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) or Metal Inert Gas (MIG).
Generally, the properties near the weld after welding are 6061-0, and the strength loss is about 80%. The material can be heat treated again to restore the -T4 or -T6 temper condition of the entire part.
After welding, the material can naturally age and regain some of its strength. Typical filler materials are 4043 or 5356. Good machinability in hard T4 and T6 tempered conditions. Machining in the annealed state is particularly difficult.
6061 Aluminum plate is commonly used in the manufacture of heavy duty structures where good corrosion resistance is required, truck and marine components, the manufacture of aircraft structures such as wings and fuselages, yacht construction, bicycle frames and components, and automotive parts such as wheel spacers.
