Due to 7075 aluminum sheet excellent ratio for weight-to-strength, it can be used in applications involving structural parts that are highly stressed.
It’s a popular choice for use in applications in commercial aircraft components and aerospace and defense equipment. 7075 aluminum sheet always called aircraft grade aluminum sheet.
The weldability of this metal is low, but the formability is great. When forging is used, it’s required that the alloy be placed in temperatures between 700 and 900 degrees F. Afterwards, solution heat treatment should be used.
General welding with 7075 aluminum alloy is not recommended. However, you may get good results when resistance welding alloys. The application of arc or gas welding may reduce the natural corrosion resistance of the alloy.
Due to the excellent performance of 7075 alloy, high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent machinability, corrosion resistance, etc., 7075 aluminum sheet is often used in the aerospace field.
7075 aluminum is mainly used for the windward parts of the whole machine, such as the upper outer panel of the wing, the longitudinal beam, the wing rib, the empennage, the fixing of the fuselage bulkhead, etc.

6061 is solderable, while 7075 is generally considered non-solderable. For 6061 aluminum, heat treatment and aging treatment are required after welding to restore the welded area to its original T state. 7075 is easy to crack after welding.
They have many fields of application, but the parts of application are not the same. For example, in the aerospace industry, 7075 is more likely to be used for gears or rods, while 6061 is more likely to be used in more malleable areas.
