What Does "GAUGE" In Aluminum Plate Mean?

Ga. is the abbreviation of GAUGE, a length measurement unit of diameter originating in North America, belonging to the Brown & Sharpe measurement system. At the beginning of 1869, J.R. Brown and L. Sharp of the United States sold the outer micrometer developed for commercial sale, and initially established the measurement system. Originally used in medicine and jewelry, the larger the number, the smaller the diameter, and it was later popularized to indicate thickness.

When the non-ferrous metal plate and the steel plate are of same Ga., the thickness is actually different, and the values of the plates and pipes of the same Ga. are also different.

Example:

16Ga. Corresponding:

Steel thickness is 0.0598 tum;
Aluminum thickness is 0.0508 tum
